Planning your spring or summer family photos in Las Vegas? Choosing the right outfits can make all the difference in how your images look and feel. As a Las Vegas family photographer, I specialize in vibrant, natural outdoor sessions — from Red Rock Canyon to Summerlin and Henderson. This guide will help you choose colors, textures, and styles that photograph beautifully in the desert light while keeping you comfortable in the warm Las Vegas weather.
• Most importantly — be you!
• Choose a seasonal color palette
• Coordinate instead of matching
• Blend patterns with solid pieces
• Add thoughtful accessories
• Aim for timeless over trendy
• Don’t forget about shoes
• Incorporate texture and light layers
• Think about your location
• Plan for the weather
Let’s start with color — because color sets the whole mood.
My editing style is bright, bold, and inspired by the gorgeous tones you find outdoors — golden sunlight, soft greenery, warm earth, and ocean blues. If you want your photos to really pop, lean into natural and neutral shades. They flatter everyone, photograph beautifully, and won’t feel outdated years down the road.
Here’s a fun little trick: take a look around your home. What colors do you decorate with most? Creams? Warm woods? Soft blues? Choosing outfits that complement your space makes it even easier when you’re ready to print and hang your images. Your photos will feel like they belong.

We’re going for “effortlessly put together,” not “family uniform from aisle 7.” Instead of dressing everyone in the exact same color, pick one or two main shades and mix them throughout your outfits with some neutrals to balance it out. Think cohesive, not copy-paste.
Patterns can bring life and personality to your photos when used thoughtfully. If one person is wearing a print, have the other(s) wear a complementary solid pulled from that pattern’s color palette. Florals, subtle stripes, or delicate prints work beautifully — just avoid bold patterns that compete for attention.
Accessories are a great way to elevate a simple outfit. If you’re leaning into neutral tones, consider adding a pop of color or texture with a wide-brim hat, layered jewelry, a lightweight scarf, or a textured cardigan. Keep it minimal though — a few intentional pieces add interest without overwhelming the look.
When planning your outfits, think long-term. Avoid clothing with large logos, graphics, or bold slogans, as well as overly trendy or neon colors. Classic pieces photograph beautifully and won’t feel dated years from now when your images are framed on the wall.
Shoes can truly pull an outfit together — or distract from it. Select footwear that complements your overall look and feels comfortable to walk and move in. Skip flip flops and athletic sneakers unless they genuinely fit the vibe. Neutral sandals, boots, or classic flats tend to photograph best.
Adding texture creates visual depth in photos. Think flowy dresses, linen shirts, knit sweaters, denim jackets, or layered pieces. Movement-friendly fabrics are especially beautiful in spring and summer sessions — they add softness and dimension when caught in the breeze.
Your setting should influence your wardrobe choices. Shooting in a grassy field or along a cobblestone path? Leave the stilettos at home. Planning a lifestyle session with lots of sitting, walking, or playful moments? Choose pieces that allow you to move comfortably and naturally.
Spring and summer weather can be unpredictable. Bring light layers or backup options so you can easily adjust. When you’re comfortable, it shows — and relaxed, natural expressions always photograph best.
Above all else, wear something that feels authentic. If an outfit is too tight, itchy, or simply not “you,” it will be hard to fully relax. Confidence is the best thing you can wear to your session. When you feel good, it shines through every image.
If you’re excited to start styling your shoot, I’d love to help bring your vision to life. Reach out and let’s make it happen!
